Friday, August 20th, 2004 - I posted here a long time ago that I was going to put up a Screenwriting section and by God I've actually done it... Without further ado (adieu?), I give you: Everything You Need To Know About Screenwriting (Whether You Wanted To Know Or Not. It is by no means complete, but it's a pretty good start. With any luck, someone might actually find it useful someday. I'm admittedly no "expert" when it comes to screenwriting. If I were, I'd be driving a Ferrari and not a 1997 Chevy Cavalier. However, I am pretty good at helping people help themselves. There are a lot of useful links and tips on the page, so take them for what they're worth. Go forth and teach thyself! A permanent link to the feature is posted in the Musings Section. Have a great weekend! Thanks for stopping by... |

Monday, August 16th, 2004 - Well, as promised, I went to see Alien vs. Predator and, as expected, it was utter crap-ola. Flawed premise. Flawed setup. Flawed history. Flawed dialogue. Flawed execution. Let's face it, people...this movie was F-L-A-W-E-D!
First of all, everyone going to see this movie wants to see Aliens duking it out with Predators, right? So why? Why? WHY???? is it that for the first 45 minutes of the movie, there is nary an Alien or a Predator to be seen? I swear, it was like watching The Hulk all over again. I was checking my watch every five minutes and damn near fell asleep. Why spend 45 minutes building backstory around a bunch of human characters you're going to kill off in ten minutes anyway? That's what I said... I think I would have cut a half hour off the beginning and tacked on some more action in the middle. The PG-13 rating, as predicted, really hurt the movie. Imagine a clean, bloodless chest bursting scene and you'll know what I'm talking about. Awful... I could go on and on about how bad this movie is, but not without posting spoilers. I will say, however, that it is better (read: more entertaining) than Alien: Resurrection...but that's not saying much. That was quite a disappointment as well. On a more positive note, there are a few funny moments. The audience was laughing and clapping and really getting into the movie as it picked up steam. I laughed all the way through the second half of the film because it was so bad, but at least in that regard, the movie was entertaining. If you sleep through the first 45 minutes, the second half surely won't bore you. I'll give it that... In summary, let's just say I think the 13% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes is a bit generous for this turkey. If you want to see a titanic clash done right, go watch Freddy vs. Jason instead. |

Friday, August 13th, 2004 - Happy Friday the 13th, everyone! Oooh... Scary! What's REALLY scary is how long it's been since my last update. Heck, I figured since I left Raven, I'd be updating the site every day. I guess not. I've posted three new updates to my WTF? Page today. The countdown from 100 to 1 continues. I'm nearly half way there! I'm going to see Alien vs. Predator in a few hours and I'm not expecting much. Quite honestly, it looks like utter crap! I'll post a full review soon... It's sitting at 8% Fresh at Rotten Tomatoes right now, so I'm starting to wonder if I should skip it entirely? =) Have a great weekend! |
